Wagner Bräu (Oberhaid) Bock

amber beer in pewter lidded mug with bottle
Wagner Bräu Bock

Brewery: Wagner Bräu
Town:
Oberhaid
Style:
Bock 7.5%
Color:
unfiltered light amber
Head: off-white

Nose:
malty, hint of butter
Body:
medium to full
Palate:
balanced, malty, underlying hops, lots of butter
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet

Served: from a bottle bought at the brewery

Impression: While it’s unlikely I’d venture to the brewery for their Bock, a friend offered to pick up a bottle for me so happy to get one. Nice looking pour but a touch of butter in the otherwise malty nose. Unfortunately, there’s even more in the otherwise balanced palate. Even the finish is coated in it. It sure doesn’t taste like 7.5% but maybe even the alcohol is masked in diacetyl.
