Spall Spallator

amber beer in tulip glass
Spall Spallator

Brewery: Spall
Town:
Ballenberg (Ravenstein)
Style: Dunkler Doppelbock

Color: unfiltered chestnut

Head: off-
white, creamy
Nose:
malty, dried fruit
Body: full

Palate:
richly malty , dried fruit
Finish: lingering, semi-dry

Served: on tap at the Brauereigastätte Ochsen

Impression: With such high hopes, I was bound to be a little disappointed but as I drink it, my preconceptions fade. It’s an unusual Bock and after the quite dry Keller Pils, it seemed a bit sticky initially. As you drink it though, its dried fruit element comes forward and while the alcohol is also up front, it’s not sticky in the lingering semi-dry finish. Second one is much better. It’s likely the beer was sitting in the line. I don’t see any locals drinking it and it’s admittedly not exactly Bockbierwetter today.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
