Michelbacher Schwarzer Adler (Adlerbrauerei Carl Schmetzer)
Brewery: Adlerbrauerei Carl Schmetzer
Town: Michelbach an der Lücke (Waldhausen)
Style: Export Dunkel 5.2%
Color: mahogany
Head: off-white, thinning
Nose: richly malty, some roast grain, hint of chocolate
Body: full
Palate: richly malty, some roast and chocolae
Finish: lingering, bittersweet
Served: on tap at the Gasthaus Adler in Rot am See
Impression: This wasn’t the most visually pleasing beer and seemed a little on the flat side. Maybe no one was drinking a Dunkel in this heat. Still I found it more interesting than the Export with some nice chocolate and roast in the richly malty mix. The lingering finish was ever so slightly sticky so one was enough but will look for a bottle to drink on a cold evening. It’s much richer than the alcohol content would suggest.
