Lang Bräu 2.4 Schankbier Hell

golden beer in glass with bottle
Lang Bräu 2.4 Schankbier

Brewery: Lang Bräu
Town:
Schönbrunn
Style: Schankbier 2.4%

Color: light golden

Head: white, rocky
Nose: grainy, light hop

Body: light

Palate: balanced, grainy, some grass, underlying hops
Finish: clean, semi-bitter, semi-dry

Served: from a bottle bought in the area

Impression: I was happy to finally see an attempt at a low alcohol beer, actually labelled a Schankbier no less. It certainly looks refreshing and the nose is invitingly grassy. It’s got a fair body considering the alcohol level and it’s balanced enough too. Though dry in the Pils mold, it’s got something of a true Helles as well. Thought it was a little thin on flavor but grows on you. I’d like to see this more in the 3.2-3.5 range. I think it would have a really nice flavor and still fill role. That said, it’s a real option for drivers at 2.4% and a helluva lot better than a Radler.
