Engel Hefeweizen
Brewery: Braumanufaktur Engel
Town: Crailsheim
Style: Hefeweizen 5.2%
Color: dark honeycomb
Head: white, rocky
Nose: fruity, lots of banana
Body: medium
Palate: fruity, banana
Finish: lingering, banana
Served: on tap at the Brauereigasthof Engel-Keller
Impression: Nicely poured despite a .3l. Classic Weizen with lots of banana in the mix of both the nose and palate. I find it a bit cloying and bland but it’s what it appears most seek in the style. There’s also the ever so slight hint of butter so I’m thankful for .3l pours as I’d have likely never ordered this otherwise.
Next beer or back to the beer list.

I'm an American living in Munich and Bamberg. Why? Well, I came for the beer but stayed for the girl. I'm very happily married to a German woman. Of course, the bonus of great beer certainly doesn't hurt. An avid love of hiking and finding new beers has led me to found Beerwanderers, an information resource on beer hiking trails in Franconia with an emphasis on Franconian food specialties and the endless variety of amazing beer the region is renowned for. I also published my first book Beer Hiking Bavaria which features 50 beer hikes in Bavaria and lead beer hiking experiences for those who love beer & nature. View all posts by beerwanderers
