Rittmayer 1422 Festbier

amber beer in pewter lidded mug with bottle
Rittmayer 1422 Festbier

Brewery: Rittmayer
Town: Hallerndorf

Style: Festbier 5.8%
Color: white, creamy, rocky
Head: white, creamy, thinning
Nose: rich malt, some hay, bready
Body: medium to full
Palate: balanced, richly malty, light grain, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet

Served: from a bottle bought in Forchheim

Impression: I was in a local shop in Forchheim primarily to get some of the town’s beers to bring home and saw this Festbier. It’s brewed in commemoration of the brewery’s 600th anniversary so decided to pick it up. Most of their line-up comes in swing tops and transporting them in my backpack is always iffy. This was in a regular capped bottle and a nice richly malty brew if not particularly different than the competition. I’d say it’s richer than most without being overly sticky, no mean feat but it lacks the hopping I see in the best. Glad I picked it up and would resample on tap but not sure I’d carry a bottle home again.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
