Brewery: Kaiserdom (Bürgerbräu)
Town: Bamberg (Gaustadt)
Style: Dunkel 4.7%
Head: tan, rocky, creamy
Nose: roasty, hint of coffee
Palate: balanced, malty, roasty, some coffee
Served: from a bottle bought in Bamberg
Impression: Since I’ve never not only been to Kaiserdom but not even tasted one of their beers, I was happy to see a few at the supermarket in Bamberg. I picked up the Dunkel to make an initial impression. It’s a good looking very dark beer with a fair tan head. Nice roasty nose with a hint of coffee foretells the palate well. A bit thin body-wise for the style and not overly flavorful but certainly not bad. I then decided to have lunch at their restaurant in Gaustadt but on calling was told it was booked out. It’s evidently the best Italian restaurant in town. I’ll try to reserve next time!
