Head: off white
Nose: malt, slight roast
Palate: balanced, chewy malt, hint of roast, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, dry, semi-bitter
Served: on gravity tap at Hop Dog in Munich
Impression: I’d had a mixed affair with this well-renowned dark beer, perhaps as much due to expectation as anything else. So I wasn’t particularly excited to see this as one of the barrel beers at Hop Dog’s 2nd Birthday Bash. Once I got one in my hands, however, it was another story. It had a gorgeous clear amber hue with an incredibly soft dry palate. The Chewy maltiness had just enough roast in the lingering finish to make it moreish. It’s obviously a beer that is truly brought to the fore by gravity dispense.
