Impression: The Meinel beers seem to be a bit of a mixed bag. None are bad but some are tastier than others. This lightly smoky Export is one of the good ones. While it is malty as befits the style, there’s plenty of hops to dry it out long before the clean semi-bitter finish. The light smoke element is perfect to introduce newbies to the Rauchbier style but also quite nice for those accustomed to more robust examples. I could drink a few of these at 5.2%.
