Greif Edel-Pils
Brewery: Greif
Town: Forchheim
Style: Pils
Color: deep golden
Head: white, rocky, lasting
Nose: slightly grainy, faint hops
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, malty, light grain, hoppy
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: from a bottle bought in Forchheim
Impression: I surprisingly liked Greif’s alcohol free Helles so was expecting to like this Pils better than the Neder one I had yesterday. Despite the Edel moniker, this one is heading more in the Helles direction. I’m glad I drank the non-alcohol Greif beer yesterday or this might seem even maltier. All that said, it’s a fine Helles with a nicely balanced palate featuring some grain mixed in with fair hopping. Admittedly it’s hoppier than most Helles but there’s an unmistakable maltiness permeating which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it makes for another nice session beer from the always drinking-friendly Greif brewery. The lingering semi-dry finish is enticingly moreish.
