Head: white, rocky, thinning
Palate: balanced, grainy, underlying hops
Finish: clean, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the Grüner Brauhaus in Fürth
Impression: The server looked at me like I’d lost the plot when I ordered the simplest beer last but wanted a benchmark to compare the others to. This is a standard Helles and oddly the only remotely fizzy beer of the session. It still looks great on being served but the head died out more quickly than all the others. The grainy nose foreshadows the balanced malty palate and while drier than many in its style group, it’s much less so than its stablemates. If this is truly a filtered version of the Naturtrüb, it’s lost all the fruitiness in the process. The finish is clean enough and oddly perhaps more bitter while simultaneously being less hoppy. I’d get one at a restaurant in town but not here again. There’s three other better choices.
