Spalter Zwickel

unfiltered golden beer in glass with bottle
Spalter Zwickel

Brewery: Stadtbrauerei Spalt (Spalter Bier)
Town:
Spalt
Style: Zwickel
Color: unfiltered light golden

Head: white, creamy
, rocky
Nose: nice mix of grain and Spalter hops, a touch of yeast

Body: medium

Palate: balanced, grainy, Spalter hops

Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter, hint of yeast

Served: from a bottle bought in the area

Impression: I was disappointed to find the Helles on tap rather than this Zwickel but happy to find it in a shop near the station. Good looking head and softer due to my self pour. A bit of yeast mixed into their signature grain/Spalter hops nose. Very dry from the start but not super bitter, it’s nicely balanced. It could easily pass as a Zwickel Pils in any other brewery’s lineup. The finish waivers back to the yeast but is mostly dry with just a hint of bitterness. Many might complain about a lack of malt backbone but I find it very pleasant, though I do like dry beers
