, creamy

Served: on tap at Zur Sonne

Impression:  As is typical for me, I tend to travel for dark beer and though I’d enjoyed all the Ammerndorfer beers at Zur Sonne, I was looking forward to finally trying their Landbier Dunkel which I’d saved for last.  It came out in my least favorite beer glassware, a tall narrow mug. They must be the hardest thing to pour beer into and the head showed. That said, it was a mahogany beauty with some caramel and roast in the richly malty nose. It was fuller than the other beers and at 5.6%, by far the strongest. It was nonetheless balanced with some dark chocolate notes before the lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet finish. It was worth the trip just for this beer.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
