Ammerndorfer Lager Urtyp

amber beer with big head in pewter lidded mug with bottle
Ammerndorfer Lager Urtyp

Brewery: Dorn-Bräu (Ammerndorfer)
Color: amber

Head: off-white
, creamy, rocky, lasting
Nose: malty, light hops
, slight butterscotch
Body: medium
, soft
Palate: balanced, malty, touch of butterscotch, underlying hops

Finish: lingering, semi-bitter

Served: from a bottle bought at the brewery

Impression: Great looking beer with a massive lasting head but my least favorite of the Ammerndorfer beers I’ve tried so far. From it’s name, it appears to be perhaps an Altfränkischesbier and I guess it mostly follows it looks and flavor-wise. There’s a touch of butterscotch but nothing intrusive, just seems odd since none of their other beers had it. I was expecting a bit more hops but it’s a relatively dry beer with an easy drinking if slightly bland character.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
