Brewery: Braumanufaktur Lippert
Town: Seubelsdorf (Lichtenfels)
Color: unfiltered amber
Head: off-white, creamy, thinning
Nose: nice light smoke, whiskey-like notes
Palate: balanced, smoke from the start but not overpowering, fine restrained hops, good malt backbone
Finish: clean, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: This was my first visit to Lippert and I’d been pleasantly surprised by their Helles but this Rauchbier really caught me off guard. The nose is quite hoppy with some whiskey notes. The palate is smoky up front with fine hopping and ample malt, making for a balanced easy drinking but tasty Rauchbier. Nice session beer at 5%. It’s worth heading to this great little place if you have the time.
