Bayreuther Rauch-Märzen

amber beer in mug with bottle
Bayreuther Brauhas Rauch-Märzen

Brewery: Bayreuther Bierbrauerei
lightly filtered amber
Head: off-white
, rocky, lasting
Nose: light smoke

balanced, malty, light bur definite smoke, fine underlying hops
Finish: clean, semi-dry, semi-bitter

Served: from a bottle bought in the area

Impression:  I wasn’t expecting much from this seasonal beer as I’ve never been fond of their flagship Aktien Zwickel Kellerbier. I imagine most of their lineup is well-brewed but a bit on the safe side and hence bland side. While this one could be seen in that light, I find the light smoky element intriguing and the hops, while understated, have an enjoyable lingering aspect in the finish. Their Kellerbier certainly lacks in this respect. I think it’s a good introductory Rauchbier and an easy drinking beer for a meal, perhaps a little dangerous at 5.5%.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
