Weiherer Zapfenduster
Brewery: Kundmüller with Cervejaria Bamberg
Town: Viereth-Trundstadt (Weiher)
Style: Imperial Stout
Color: unfiltered black
Head: tan, rocky, massive
Nose: roast, some spice, slightly smoky
Body: full
Palate: rich malt, chocolate, some coffee
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: from a bottle bought in the area
Impression: This a collaboration with Cervejaria Bamberg so a big beer is to be expected. This is a majestically dark brew with a massive rocky tan head and nose of roast and slight smoke. The rich palate has some chocolate and coffee and the finish is lingering, semi-dry and semi-bitter. It’s quite a mouthful but not overly imposing at the same time so dangerously drinkable at 8.5%.
I’m generally not a fan of stouts, but this one looks so interesting and your excellent description do make it look dangerously drinkable.
We love stouts but it’s not a readily available style here. With Craft Beer making its inroad, we’re seeing more of them. Not the time of year for it but that’s when I found this one so wasn’t about to save it until winter!
