Sternla Märzen
Brewery: Brauhaus zum Sternla
Town: Bamberg
Style: Märzen
Color: unfiltered amber
Head: off-white, rocky, thinning
Nose: spicy, light hops
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, spicy, underlying hops
Finish: clean, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: On my first visit, I liked this more than the Export but perhaps this time around, it was a bit on the malty side after the admittedly hoppy Export. That said, it was more impressively poured with a much better head. Even though it was quite malty, it remained dry enough in the finish to make it quite quaffable. I’d get this first if you are thinking of trying all their beers.
