Wunsiedler Hönickator
Brewery: Hönicka Bräu Wunsiedler
Town: Wunsiedel
Style: Heller Doppelbock
Color: deep golden
Head: off-white, sudsy
Nose: rich malt, a touch of honey, faint grain/hops
Body: medium
Palate: richly malty, a touch of honey, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet
Served: from a bottle bought in the area
Impression: I quite liked their Dunkler Doppelbock so decided to give this a try despite its having a screw cap. It’s a deceptively strong brew which could pass for a typical Franconian Bock with a rich malty palate. It’s got a touch of honey in both the nose and taste but there is fair hopping, making for a lingering, semi-dry, bittersweet finish. Liked their dark Bock more but this was pretty good too.
