Knoblach Rauchsüdla
Brewery: Knoblach
Town: Schammelsdorf
Style: Rauchbier
Color: unfiltered amber
Head: off-white, rocky, chiffon-like
Nose: light smoke, hops
Body: medium, soft
Palate: malty, fine smokiness, slight grain, underlying hops
Finish: lingering, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: from a bottle bought in the vicinity
Impression: Knoblach is is one of my favorite Franconian breweries. Their beers are generally very well-hopped, bitter and supremely dry across the board. This is one of the most rounded with a malty balanced palate featuring a light but definite fine smokiness which intermingles with the Spalter hops effortlessly. It’s a winner from the pour with a chiffon-like off-white head which lasted through many photos, this shot being the last! This is a great introductory Rauchbier but for those who already like them, this is a great session beer with a very pleasant but unmistakable smoke element.
When I first glanced at this heading I mis-read it as “Knoblauch”, the German word for garlic.
I used to misspell it all the time. Auto-correct doesn’t help either! haha
