Impression: I finally made it to this brewery after a great visit at their nearby Bierkeller. I only had time for a quick one and opted for their Dunkles and said to myself I’d return in the winter for the dark Bock only to have that dream quashed by COVID-19. So, I was happy to find it and their Hellerbock in bottled form to tide me over. I had the excellent Hellerbock first so was apprehensive to have this immediately following but all fears were allayed by the gorgeous chestnut hue and strong aroma of cocoa. The rich malty palate had both chocolate and roast. While the hops were subdued, they intermingled teasingly with the cocoa and roast in the long semi-dry finish. It is deceptively strong one at 7.2%. I’ll be looking for this on tap as soon as its open.
