Frauendorfer Landbier
Brewery: Hetzel (Frauendorfer)
Town: Frauendorf
Style: Landbier
Color: amber
Head: white, dissipating
Nose: slight grain
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, malty, grainy, underlying hops
Finish: clean, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: from a bottle bought in the area
Impression: I’d bought some bottles of a few of the Frauendorfer beers last year but I hadn’t seen their Landbier until I found it on tap at the Schwarzer Adler just up the road from the brewery. I’d liked it but not as much as their very tasty Vollbier. I was happy to finally see bottles of it and I got it along with both the Vollbier and Pils so it was easy to compare. The first bottle lost its head quickly but the second one was better. It’s got a nice amber hue and low carbonation. The palate is quite malty and reminds me a bit of an English ale with some hops towards the somewhat dry finish. I’d still have to say the Vollbier is my favorite.
