Brauhaus Höchstadt Kellerbier
Brewery: Brauhaus Höchstadt an der Aisch
Town: Höchstadt an der Aisch
Style: Kellerbier
Color: in Krug so no visuals, looks amber
Head: off-white, creamy
Nose: malty
Body: medium, lacking the softness of the style
Palate: balanced, malty, dry, hoppy
Finish: clean, semi-dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the Laufer Keller
Impression: I had low expectations of the Brauhaus Höchstadt beers but the first one I tried while at the Laufer Keller, their Helles, caught me off-guard with how hoppy it was. This Kellerbier came out in a logo Krug with a similar creamy head but looked darker than the Helles. An attempt to get the beer in a clear glass was thwarted by their not having one. It had a maltier nose and lacked the grain element of the Helles but was similar on the dryness continuum. It wasn’t as bitter but it was somehow more hoppy. Despite it be a little gassy for the style, I enjoyed it more than the Helles.
