Greifenklau Zwickel
Brewery: Greifenklau
Town: Bamberg
Style: Zwickel
Color: honeycomb
Head: white, thinning
Nose: malty, yeasty
Body: medium
Palate: grainy, some yeast
Finish: fairly clean
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I was hoping they would have their Rauchbier on as it’s never available in the winter when I’m there. So, the Zwickel had a touch act to follow. It’s a cross between a Helles and a Weizen albeit no banana in the split. Probably blind, the grain would dominate but I caught some yeast in the mix. To be fair, I might have liked it better if I’d had it before the hoppier Lager and it’s certainly a thirst quencher on a hot day (and it was!) at 4.8%.
