Eichhorn Pils
Brewery: Brauerei Eichhorn
Town: Dörfleins
Style: Pils
Color: light golden
Head: creamy, white, dense
Nose: light hop
Body: medium
Palate: balanced, a bit of grain, fair hopping
Finish: clean, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I’d had this in a bottle but never had time to try it on tap at the brewpub. This time around, I had a much more relaxed visit and tried all of the beers besides the Weizen. Since I’d had two of the Kellerbiers just prior, it’s hard not to compare. It almost seemed like a filtered version of the Keller with a cleaner if less complex palate. It lacked the grassy element but the grain was more pronounced as were the hops. The finish was more bitter but it still wasn’t a typical German Pils with regard to its dryness. All this said, it would be a beer you’d be happy to session on at 5% if the Kellerbier weren’t there.
