Eichhorn Schwarzer Adler Kellerbier in Krug & glass
Brewery: Brauerei Eichhorn
Color: unfiltered golden
Head: creamy, white
Nose: faint hop, some fresh mown grass
Body: medium, soft
Palate: balanced, understated grain, mown grass, underlying hops, a touch of honey
Finish: lingering, bittersweet
Served: from the tank at the brewery
Impression: I finally got back to the Schwarzer Adler to have more of their Kellerbier and was lucky to find it from the tank the day I chose. It comes in a Krug as it should but I asked for my second one in a glass to appreciate its unfiltered golden hue. From the tank, it has a great soft mouthfeel and the scent of freshly mown grass plays well out here in the countryside. Everything about the beer is understated but it comes together in a most drinkable way, and dangerously so at 5%. While not as hoppy as I like my Kellerbiers to be, I find it beguiling nonetheless and it’s certainly one not to miss.
