Brewery: Hetzel (Frauendorfer)
Color: unfiltered, black
Nose: some roast
Palate: rich malt, some roast, underlying hops
Finish: long, dry, semi-bitter
Served: on tap at the Schwarzer Adler in End (Bad Staffelstein)
Impression: This is a beer contract-brewed for the restaurant by Brauerei Hetzel up the road in Frauendorf. It comes out a black beauty with a bit of roast in the nose. It’s very much a Schwarzbier and a very good one at that, with a great dry palate and long, semi-bitter finish. It’s purportedly brewed according to an old family recipe and if so, they should dig up some more.
