Hübner Lagerbier
Brewery: Hübner
Town: Steinfeld
Style: Lagerbier
Color: in Krug so no visuals, looks light amber to deep golden
Head: off-white, thinning
Nose: grainy
Body: medium, low carbonation
Palate: balanced, some grain, underlying hops, slight tobacco
Finish: clean, slightly bitter
Served: on gravity dispense at the Hirschaid Keller
Impression: I’d had this on tap at the brewpub in Steinfeld once and quite liked it but bottles of it when I got hold of any didn’t quite live up to that tap version. So, I was happy to find it not only on tap but also via gravity dispense at this little Bierkeller. It was interesting to have it head-to-head with Kraus Lagerbier, a similar beer and also from the barrel. As much as I liked it, I’d have to say Kraus was the more enjoyable beer, at least that day. This Keller is quite a bit easier to get to by public transport than Steinfeld so if looking to try their beer on tap, it’s a good alternative.
