Brewery: Brauhaus am Kruezberg

Body: medium
Palate: sour, possibly spoiled/resampled balanced, cascade hops
Finish: I didn’t finish it/resampled lingering, slightly bitter
Served: on tap at the Brauhaus am Kreuzberg
Impression: I’d been to this very popular brewpub up on the Kreuzberg a few times. While it was always my least favorite of the places up there, I didn’t think it was bad. From memory, the Pilgertrunk was fair enough. I’d heard some bad things about the beer recently and decided to try their Zwickel, figuring it would be an easy style to brew and should be the go to at a Bierkeller if there is not Kellerbier on the menu (which there wasn’t). It looked okay in the Krug if a bit flat. That I could handle in the style but it had a yeasty nose and a sour flavor. If it had been a Weizen, I might have said it was just not good but if this wasn’t spoiled, I really don’t know what the brewer was going for.
Note: After being told from a Bamberg local their beer was the best on the hill, I had to stop back in to resample what was an off sourish beer the first time around. This time it looked much better with some citrus hops in the nose which followed into the balanced palate. It was infinitely better but still no match for Lieberths or Roppelts.
