Weiherer Zwickerla Hell
Brewery: Kundmüller
Town: Viereth-Trundstadt (Weiher)
Style: Zwicklbier
Color: unfiltered, golden
Head: white, creamy
Nose: nice mix of malt & hops
Body: medium, low carbonation
Palate: hoppy, balanced
Finish: clean, dry, bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I noticed more than a few people drinking the Zwickerla and they had not only a light one on tap but also a bottled dark one. I’d had all the other light colored session strength beers so figured I’d give it a try. It looked a bit like the Kellerbier and to be honest, I was surprised to see they not only had both but also that the Kellerbier (often amber in Franconia) was light in color too. The Keller had more of a citrusy aspect whereas this Zwickl was much hoppier and more bitter. I found that I may have liked it the best of the lot. I’ll be keeping my eye out for a bottle of the Zwickerla Dunkel when I’m in beer stores in Franconia.
