Impression: This was dessert after my lunch the second day at the brewery. I’d had a small taster of one of my favorite Weiher beers, their Urstöffla and drank a full Schwarzla with my meal but this Rauchbier stood up to them. It’s a malty beer but has a very understated but sure smoky presence nonetheless. It’s always there and very much the defining flavor but it’s not overbearing in any way. There’s an undercurrent of hops that keeps the finish clean too. At 5.3%, you could drink it for a session if smokey flavors are your thing. I think it’s a great introductory smoke beer and one worth trying even if you’re a big fan of the style.
