Wagner-Bräu Kuckuck
Brewery: Wagner-Bräu
Town: Kemmern
Style: Rauchbier
Color: light amber
Head: rocky, dense
Nose: malty but a hint of smoke
Body: medium
Palate: a big malty flavor with a fair smokey note
Finish: clean, dry
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Since we were staying just up the road and were sharing beers, I decided to give their Rauchbier a go. I’d had a bottle of it a few years prior and remembered it as being quite good. It was another beauty with a huge head and nice faint smoke in the nose. It full and quite malty with just a faint smokey note for accent. It had what seems their signature dry, bitter finish. Another good introductory smoke beer for those weary of the style.
