Color: deep amber
Head: off white, creamy
Nose: rich malt
Body: full, low carbonation
Palate: richly malty, slightly dry
Finish: very clean, dryish, hint of bitterness
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Where you drink the beer matters but unfortunately the brewpub is currently closed, with no word as to when it will reopen. It was one of my favorite beer experiences, with the old brewer pouring the beer, serving it AND a huge Schäuferla. His wife was likely doing all the cooking in the kitchen. Maybe that’s why it’s not open. It was a real treat to find the Festbier on tap the first and only time I got to this great brewpub. It was what a Festbier should be, an amped up version of the most popular beer they have. It was very similar in appearance but more full-bodied and richer in flavor. Still, with the maltier qualities, it was not sweet and very dry in the finish. I’ve never seen it since and hope to find it one day again.
