Grosch Luthertrunk
Brewery: Brauerei Gasthof Der Grosch
Town: Rödental (Oeslau)
Style: Märzen
Color: lightly filtered, amber
Head: rocky, white
Nose: malty, slight caramel
Body: medium
Palate: rich malt, some smokiness
Finish: long, semi-dry, bittersweet
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: This was my second beer on my first visit and again the presentation was excellent with a ample rocky head in a logo specific glass, something rare in Germany. There was a hint of caramel in the nose which led well into the primarily rich malt palate. There was an unusual but not unpleasant smokiness before the long somewhat dry finish. It was quite drinkable at 5.5% but it didn’t jump out at me and liked the Fuhrmannstrunk better.
