Hofmann Maifestbier
Brewery: Hofmann
Town: Hohenschwärz
tyle: Festbier Dunkel
Color: dark chestnut
Head: rocky, off-white
Nose: malty, some chocolate
Body: full-bodied
Palate: rich malt, some dark chocolate, hint of licorice
Finish: long, dryish, bittersweet
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I’d had their Weihnachtsfestbier in November quite by accident when doing a hike I’d previously only done in summer. When doing the hike with my wife the following spring, I was pleasantly surprised to find a Maifest. I was even happier when it was once again a very dark brew, similar to the one I’d had the previous autumn but more chocolatey rather than roasty, and just a bit of licorice in the mix.
