Heckel-Bier
Brewery: Heckel
Town: Waischenfeld
Style: Vollbier
Color: honeycomb
Head: white, rocky
Nose: malt, faint hop
Body: full, low carbonation
Palate: rich malt, fruity, hoppy
Finish: long, dry, bitter
Served: on gravity dispense at the brewery
Impression: This is a beer that evidently needs to be drunk on the premises. We had it at a nearby restaurant and thought it was just okay but at the brewery, where it’s served from small barrels via gravity dispense, it’s got not only a different mouthfeel but the finish is much cleaner. It’s a gorgeous honeycomb beer which could be mistaken for a Weissbier if not for the Seidla style mug. It’s an incredibly soft beer with a nicely balanced dry fruity flavor. The finish is long but not sticky and invites another sip, and then another beer.
