Hummel Räucherla
Brewery: Hummel
Town: Merkendorf
Style: Rauchbier
Color: dark amber
Head: creamy, tan
Nose: malty, fair smokiness
Body: full, soft
Palate: balanced, fair malt, dry, hoppy, faint smoke
Finish: clean, bitter
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I’d had this tasty Rauchbier before but think i appreciated it more after their smoky Dopplebock as it was quite a bit more approachable and certainly more quaffable. This is a great intro beer to the smoky style. It’s balanced and has a nice hoppiness that the smoke element doesn’t overshadow. It’s a beer with smoke, rather than a smoke beer.
