Grasser Märzen

IMG_2296_cr.JPG

Brewery: Grasser
Town: Huppendorf
Style: Märzen
Color: deep amber
Head: off white, rocky
Nose: rich malt
Body: full, medium carbonation
Palate: rich, malty, some spiciness, slight roast
Finish: long, dry,  bittersweet
Served: on tap at the brewery for Tages des Bieres

Impression: I’ve been lucky or just timed things well to have most of the Huppendorfer seasonal beers on tap but their Märzen had eluded me. I did manage to pick up some bottles on a visit in 2018 and liked it so much I made a point of returning in 2019 to finally enjoy it on the day of its tapping. I was not disappointed and it was a bit different then the unfiltered version in the bottle. It was bright and clear with a deep amber hue as you would expect of the style but the flavor was similar in its rich malty spicy palate. There weren’t a lot of hops out front but there were plenty out back to make for a clean moreish finish. At 5.6%, dangerously so. If only this was the Märzen served at Munich’s Oktoberfest, I’d be one very happy man.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
