Schederndofer Bock
Brewery: Brauerei Will
Town: Schederndorf
Style: Hellerbock
Color: unfiltered, golden
Head: white, thinning
Nose: malty
Body: full-bodied, overly-carbonated
Palate: rich malt, bitterness comes through as it warms
Finish: fairly dry, some bitterness
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: I’d returned to the brewery after many years primarily to have their recently award winning Rauchbier but couldn’t resist having the bock as it was on tap. It looked promising, unfiltered and golden but it was not well-poured and over-carbonated. The head thinned quickly and it was a bit on the cold side. It was rich and malty and at 7.8% fairly dry. The bitterness came through more as it warmed up and lost some of its fizz. Not bad, but not the Rauchbier, either.
