Impression: I had few expectations when I stopped by the Kitzmann brewery in 2016 after passing up such a stop many times. It was such a pleasant surprise, I vowed to return as soon as I could. Sadly, I didn’t make it back and the brewery closed on September 30, 2018. The beers will be brewed by Kulmbacher and it appears the brewery tap will remain open. Let’s hope so, it’s a gorgeous historic place with great food.
As a tribute, I’ll review some of the beers I never got around to after the visit. The Kellerbier was a real surprise. I am leery of big brewery offerings in this style. While Kitzmann wasn’t really a big brewery, it would have been easy for them to produce a so-so “smooth” kellerbier like you find in southern Bavaria. This was not the case, with an interesting peppery note to the otherwise dry fruity brew. I’d have liked to have another but they had quite a range on tap!
Next beer or back to the beer list.
