Impression: I had few expectations when I stopped by the Kitzmann brewery in 2016 after passing up such a stop many times. It was such a pleasant surprise, I vowed to return as soon as I could. Sadly, I didn’t make it back and the brewery closed on September 30, 2018. The beers will be brewed by Kulmbacher and it appears the brewery tap will remain open. Let’s hope so, it’s a gorgeous historic place with great food.

As a tribute, I’ll review some of the beers I never got around to after the visit.  The Märzen was the least favorite of the day but that said, it was a beautiful beer to behold and it was nice to find a style of beer not found often enough, on tap no less. It was malty to the core, as is should be with some roast but lacking the spicy character that sets the best of the style apart. I’d have liked to see a bit more hops in the finish but I like my finishes drier. All that said, I’d gladly order it again if Kulmbacher decides to keep it in their portfolio.

Next beer or back to the beer list.
