Style: Heller Bock
Color: deep golden
Head: white, fluffy, dense
Nose: malty, hint of hops
Palate: rich and malty but nice initial bitterness
Finish: long, dry, clean
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: This was a surprising brewery. I hadn’t read much about it but it was part of a hike we were doing past many great breweries. It was in the final stretch and it had been raining all day. My wife was pretty miserable but was a good sport. Must say this place helped. It was dry and warm, had very good beer and cheap, tasty Flammkuchen. The Lagerbier was fantastic but the bock was on tap and went for it despite having a fair walk back to the train station. I was glad I did as it was like a nicely amped up version of the lower octane brew. Though rich and malty, the finish was incredibly dry and clean. I would have been happy to be staying there that night.
